Hotels and Accommodations in Fakarava (Tuamotu Islands)
STANDARD HOTELS
Le Maitai Dream Fakarava
In the north part of the atoll, you will find a handful of pensions
and a 3-star hotel called Le Maitai Dream Fakarava. The hotel is
nice looking and comfortable, but I do have my issues with it. In
building the hotel they clear cut all the coconut trees and now
are forced to replant them. The property would be so much more beautiful
if they had the big old trees back. In addition, they would have
much more in the way of needed shade. The primary reason to go to
Fakarava is the diving and previously there was simply noting to
do at the hotel if you weren’t diving. Fortunately the hotel
has caught on and now offers outrigger canoes and snorkeling equipment
free of charge along with different beach and board games.
Fakarava Diving is the best dive center on the island (there
are two) and they are based at the hotel.
PENSIONS
Tokerau Village
If you are looking for a pension in the north, we recommend Tokerau
Village. The owner is a lovely Tahitian woman named Flora and she
has created a beautiful spot with a lovely garden at the waters
edge. There are four spacious bungalows and each is decorated with
traditional Tifaifai (handmade Tahitian bed cover).
Tokerau Vllage is conveniently located right next to Le Maitai
so you can walk to the dive center in the morning. They also have
kayaks and bicycles available for your use.
