SUPERIOR HOTELS
Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa
The Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa is a traditional Polynesian style
hotel and located on the North East side of the island near Cook's
Bay. While this hotel has an official classification of 4-stars,
I have to say it is 4+++. They have a great spa and in my opinion
the best restaurant of all the hotel restaurants. The bungalows
and common spaces are made of an exotic dark wood called Kohu and
are really quite beautiful. The deluxe garden bungalows have a small
private plunge pool while the overwater bungalows bring you up-close
and personal to Moorea's underwater life. This hotel also happens
to have the largest swimming pool on the island. I recommend this
hotel highly.
I particularly like this hotel for divers as the best dive
center on the island is based here. The staff of Moorea Blue Diving
will guarantee you have a great time.
Moorea InterContinental Resort
The hotel in Moorea, with the largest and most beautiful grounds
is the Moorea InterContinental Resort. It is located on the northwest
side of the island. The hotel has recently undergone renovations
and all of the bungalows are beautifully done in local materials.
The bungalows also happen to be spaced far enough apart to allow
a good amount of privacy.
What I especially like about the Beachcomber is that there is plenty
of beach. So if you don't feel like hanging on the main beach you
need only take a little stroll to find your own private beach. The
hotel also provides "Kid's Club," a service to take care
of and keep your children entertained. You will also find every
type of aquatic activity you can imagine based here: parasailing,
jet-skiing, pedal boats, outrigger canoes, water-skiing and deep-sea
fishing. In addition, James Samuela of Moorea
Tattoo is the best tattoo artist on the island and his tattoo
fare is located on the main beach of the hotel. Bathy's
Club - A PADI 5-star dive center is located here.
MODERATE HOTELS
Hotel Fare Vai Moana
If you are looking for a moderate priced small hotel, I recommend
the Hotel Fare Vai Moana. There are only 13 bungalows. All have
thatched roofs and are simply decorated. They have a great white
sand beach and here is actually a perfect place to watch the sunset.
You will also find a very nice beach side restaurant and on certain
evenings, they bring in Tahitian dancers.
BUDGET HOTELS
Hotel Kaveka
The Hotel Kaveka is a small family owned hotel. For over two decades
Greg & Milo have catered to budget minded travelers. There are
29 bungalows and all are quite basic in what they offer - a bed
& clean shower. The hotel is located on Cook's Bay so you get
a beautiful view of both the bay and the surrounding mountains.
I like this hotel for budget minded divers as it is conveniently
located to Moorea Blue Diving. Moorea Blue Diving will pick you
up by boat at the hotel.
