Hotels and Accommodations in Rangiroa (Tuamotu Islands)
Rangiroa has one luxury resort hotel, a standard hotel and a slew
of pensions.
SUPERIOR HOTELS
Kia Ora Village
The only luxury resort on the atoll is called Kia Ora Village. Entering
the hotel, you pass through a large and beautiful coconut plantation.
This is the only hotel with overwater bungalows and they really
are great. All of the bungalows including garden and beach are quite
spacious. My only complaint is the food. I expect better from a
5-star resort.
STANDARD HOTELS
Novotel Rangiroa Beach Resort
The Novotel Rangiroa Beach Resort is a small hotel with 38 units.
While the bungalows are not huge, I must say they are quite nice
— very simple yet typically local style and each has a television..
My favorites are the Beach Bungalows as they are literally right
at the water’s edge. I can happily say, they have a very good
restaurant here. They are located on the middle of the atoll and
within walking distance of a market and very good roulotte (mobile
food truck) that serves up a mean steak & fries.
PENSION
Relais de Josephine
There is a wonderful "pension" on Rangiroa called Relais
de Josephine, yet I am hesitant to call it a pension. If pensions
were rated on the star-system, this would have 5-stars. There are
a total of 6 bungalows and all are beautifully appointed with teak
furniture in the French Colonial style and thatched roofs. The Relais
is situated right on the Tiputa pass so you can often see dolphins
playing from the bar terrace. Relais de Josephine is also well known
for delicious home cooking. Everything is made from scratch, including
the preserves.
Pension Tuanake
Next on my list of favorite places is the Pension Tuanake. They
have done a really nice job in building spacious bungalows while
maintaining an authentic Polynesian feel. I also happen to like
their very simple local style of cooking. They have different size
bungalows. The Grand Family Bungalow will accommodate up to 6 people
comfortably.
