Island Tour: Scuba Diving in Bora Bora (Society Islands)
BORA BORA SCUBA DIVING
 Many
believe Bora Bora has the most beautiful lagoon in the world. Because
it also happens to be home to the large manta ray, this island is
also quite popular with divers. To swim within arms reach of these
majestic beauties is reason alone to visit this island. Yet mantas
aren't the only sea life in Bora Bora. You will also see gray sharks,
lemon sharks, moray eels, turtles and barracuda. There is virtually
no current in Bora Bora, so scuba divers of all levels will have
an easy time diving on their vacation here.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN BORA BORA
French Polynesia is known the world over as a South Seas paradise,
but the waters around Bora Bora are exceptional even by Tahitian
standards. Bora Bora is just a 45-minute flight from Tahiti and
the airport lies on a motu (islet), so once you arrive, you will
have to take a boat to your hotel. This simple little experience
makes you feel you have truly landed someplace special. The island
of Bora Bora is surrounded by a barrier reef. Within her lagoon
lie many motus. In my opinion, the most beautiful vantage point
of Bora Bora is from one of the motus.
In Bora Bora you have plenty of different ways to enjoy the waters.
From outrigger canoe and paddleboat to sailing and windsurfing,
jetskiing or parasailing, it is simply a matter of choosing.
Unlike some larger islands, which require several days to tour,
Bora Bora can be easily traversed within a day. This makes the island
a good choice for land activities such as biking, hiking and horseback
riding. Hikers in Bora Bora can choose between simple scenic routes,
or more challenging guided climbs up the peaks of Mt. Pahia. Just
make sure you have plenty of water. If riding horseback along the
white sand beaches of a private motu sounds like something you have
always wanted to do, then Bora Bora is the place for you. In fact,
some ranches will even arrange moonlight rides.
