Island Tour: Scuba Diving in Manihi (Tuamotu Islands)
MANIHI SCUBA DIVING
 The
atoll of Manihi is more than 3 miles wide and 19 miles long. There
are numerous dives sites in Manihi and all are just a 5-minute boat
ride away. Between the breathtaking ocean walls that descend over
5900 feet and the many passes, you will find the waters of Manihi
alive with a beautiful variety of coral gardens, snappers, napoleon
fish, giant jack fish, marlin, tuna, eagle and manta rays. You will
also find four varieties of sharks; black tip, white tip, nurse
and gray. If you are lucky enough to be in Manihi two days after
a full moon, you will find the waters filled with hundreds of yellow
perch. Visit June/July and you will see hundreds of marbled grouper
as they gather to mate. June through December is the best time to
encounter manta rays. Manihi is an excellent dive destination for
divers of all levels.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN MANIHI
 Peaceful,
quiet Manihi is an hour and 15 minute flight from Tahiti and boasts
several black pearl farms as well as an impeccably crystal clear
lagoon. Here you will see shimmering blues and greens surrounded
by white and pink sand beaches. You don't even need a mask and snorkel
to see the lagoon teeming with tropical fish. Grab an outrigger
canoe or kayak and explore the lagoon at your leisure. There are
several different boat excursions available. I recommend a tour
of the lagoon where you will visit black pearl farms and uninhabited
motus (islets). You also have the option of enjoying a barbeque
picnic on one of the motus and/or a sunset cruise. Should you decide
to try and catch some mahimahi or tuna, you can charter a boat and
skipper to take you deep-sea fishing.
